a New art & Advocacy project

archaeology of care

COVID-19 forced the world into lockdown, casting a spotlight on the realities of confinement. For seniors isolated in long-term care facilities, conditions are often dismal and exacerbate the stressors they experience as a result of the pandemic. Canadian Art in Isolation grew from the desire to connect with these seniors and bring the work of local artists into the spaces where residents were confined. To date, over 300 artworks decorate the rooms of seniors in care homes across Toronto.

But now, several months into a pandemic that exposed the deplorable state of nursing homes in Canada, our focus is shifting to the quality of life in care. Canadian Art in Isolation is seeking the community’s participation in an upcoming project titled Archaeology of Care. Through the collection of images and stories, we aim to generate a compelling visualization that recounts seniors’ experience of life in long-term care. If you or your loved one in care would like to contribute to the project, please review and fill out the Google Form below.
